Kavananda 3-Year Anniversary

02.25.23 • Ceremonial

Overview

Following the success of the Bloom Music & Arts Festival the previous night, I shifted to double-duty as opener and closer for Bula Kavananda’s 3-Year Anniversary celebration in Seminole Heights, Florida. The event, thrown together by Bay Area’s Killa Studios, featured Bay Area artists Ahrod and SHEVONNE & The Force — who both performed the night prior at the Bloom Music & Arts Festival.

Pivoting from the electronic, bohemian sounds that prompted attendees and fire spinners to jam out the prior night, I returned back to my roots with an eclectic lineup of hip-hop, funk, and soul selections from new and established artists. The hour-long set varied in energy, appealing to older and younger attendees of the celebration while still providing a unique opportunity to show off my mixing style for new and returning listeners.

Due to Tampa’s music ordinance cutting into the performance time for SHEVONNE & The Force, the venue was forced to make quick arrangements to keep attendees on the property. With some quick thinking, I moved my DJ setup indoors and threw on an impromptu open-format set to keep attendees around through the night.

While this wasn’t the first time performing at Bula Kavananda, the 3-year anniversary performance undoubtedly provided me with one of the larger performances I’d have the opportunity to play for — with overwhelmingly positive results.
